Plant rules out Led Zeppelin reunion

LONDON (Reuters) - Former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant has put paid to persistent rumors that the British rock giants were planning to reunite for a tour.

The famous foursome got back together for a one-off charity gig in London last December, and the media has speculated ever since that they could stage a comeback tour that would be expected to sell out arenas around the world.

Band insiders have said that Plant, who is touring the United States with Alison Krauss, has been the most reluctant to get back together, and a statement on his website on Monday made clear his intentions.

"Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are currently touring the USA on the last leg of their 'Raising Sand' tour," he said, adding that the tour finished on October 5.

"After those dates, Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years.

Paul Newman, Hollywood's anti-hero, dies at 83

By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN

WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) — Paul Newman never much cared for what he once called the "rubbish" of Hollywood, choosing to live in a quiet community on the opposite corner of the U.S. map, staying with his wife of many years and — long after he became bored with acting — pursuing his dual passions of philanthropy and race cars.

And yet despite enormous success in both endeavors and a vile distaste for celebrity, the Oscar-winning actor never lost the aura of a towering Hollywood movie star, turning in roles later in life that carried all the blue-eyed, heartthrob cool of his anti-hero performances in "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."

The 10-time Academy Award nominee died Friday at age 83, surrounded by family and close friends at his Westport farmhouse following a long battle with cancer, publicist Jeff Sanderson said Saturday.

'Project Runway' blocked from moving to Lifetime Networks from Bravo

By Meg James

Project Runway's" bolt to Lifetime Networks has hit a snag.

In a blow to the cable network and Weinstein Co., which produces the program, a New York state judge granted a preliminary injunction Friday to block the show's move to Lifetime -- at least for now. NBC Universal, which has run "Project Runway" on its Bravo channel for four years, sought the injunction by claiming that Weinstein Co. broke its promise to give NBC Universal an option to renew before handing the program to a competing network.

The case revealed the sloppy contracts, strong personalities and sharp elbows that are sometimes at work in the TV business.

During a court hearing over the summer, Weinstein Co. co-founder Harvey Weinstein testified that although he considered NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker to be his "friend," Weinstein would rather "cut off my arm than give him right of first refusal."

In his decision, New York Supreme Court Justice Richard B. Lowe III wrote that Weinstein had falsely led Zucker to believe that "Project Runway" still was available, even though Weinstein had weeks earlier secretly entered into a deal, worth as much as $200 million, to sell the show to Lifetime. Lifetime is jointly owned by Walt Disney Co. and Hearst Corp.

Tina Fey reprises role as Sarah Palin on 'SNL'

By JAKE COYLE

NEW YORK (AP) — Tina Fey reprised her role as Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live," again appearing as the Republican vice presidential candidate in an opening sketch.

Saturday night's show — the third of the season for the NBC comedy program — brought back the season premiere tandem of Fey and Amy Poehler, who opened the season with a memorable sketch featuring Fey as Palin and Poehler as Hillary Clinton.

This time around, Poehler played CBS's Katie Couric, parodying the interview with Palin earlier this week. Poehler, though, mostly played straight man to Fey, who ratcheted up her performance of Sen. John McCain's running mate by satirizing her foreign affairs experience.

When Poehler's Couric pushed Fey's Palin to specifically discuss how she would help facilitate democracy abroad, Fey gave in: "Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines. ... I want to phone a friend."
